Children Of America Introduces Mind & Body Matters Program To Promote Parent/child Reading Time And Healthy Lifestyle …

Children of America Educational Childcare & Academys Mind & Body Matters program stresses reading, nutrition and physical fitness[1].

In an effort to promote healthy lifestyle choices for children, Children of America (COA) Educational Childcare & Academy has implemented its Mind & Body Matters program[2]. The program is designed to engage parents in their childrens education and promote healthy lifestyle choices.

Parents are the most important people in a childs life, said Thad Pryor, CEO and founder of Children of America Educational Childcare & Academy. We wanted to create a program that would not only allow parents to become involved in their childrens education and well being, but encourage them to involve the whole family.

The system is comprised of three programs designed to encourage reading time and healthy lifestyles through nutrition and fitness.

The three programs in the Mind & Body Matters system are:

Just Read Program    

The Just Read program features a new book each month written and illustrated by students at Children of America. The program encourages parents to read with their children for 15 minutes each day. COA teachers bring the book into the classroom with activities focused on its content. Parents may access the book of the month online with their computers, smartphones or tablets. Studies show that reading aloud to children is the most important activity for building a stronger academic foundation. Pryor said. A persons ability to read directly affects how successful they will be in school and life. Our goal is to prepare children for success.

An Apple a Day Nutrition Program

The An Apple a Day nutrition program encourages a healthy diet both inside and outside the classroom. COAs registered dietitian not only plans on-campus meals, but shares her nutritional tips and healthy recipes on COAs An Apple a Day blog.

Eating healthy can be tough, especially when busy schedules get in the way, said Jaime Windrow, registered dietician for Children of America. I blog about recipes that are not only healthy and kid friendly, but easy to make in a time crunch.

Presidential Fitness Program

COAs Presidential Fitness program incorporates physical fitness activities into the curriculum in an effort to get children in the habit of exercising on a regular basis. The fitness program works with children to build their physical endurance and cardiovascular strength.

We understand the importance of being active both physically and mentally when it comes to healthy living, Pryor said. Our Mind & Body Matters package has programs to stimulate both. We believe it is our duty to enrich the day-to-day lives of our families.
