RALEIGH, N.C. -

A new festival that kicked off Sunday in Raleigh is encouraging people to live a healthy lifestyle by eating organically grown and locally sourced foods.

Several local farmers and organic food producers from the community were in attendance Sunday for the Triangle Vegfest at Carolina Pines park.

They even encouraged those in attendance to integrate more healthy, sustainable and cruelty-free choices into their diets.

“There are a variety of reason for people to vegan,” organizer Alexandra Lane said. “People do it for health reasons, some people do it for the animals, some people just feel that the world would be better off if we were all vegan. It has an environmental impact — what you eat and what you put on your plate. A lot of people are thinking about these things.”

Organizers say the festival, which they hope to make an annual event, is not just for vegans and vegetarians.
