CHAMPAIGN Try using a different web browser.
Or consider logging on in the middle of the night.
Either of these tips might just get you past the roadblocks on the federal website on which millions of people are trying to enroll in health insurance, say counselors and navigators helping the uninsured.
Jen Tayabji, a community organizer with one organization offering help, Champaign County Health Care Consumers, said she hasn’t seen any browser requirements or suggestions to do a browser check for the federal health insurance marketplace website at http://www.healthcare.gov[1].
However, she said, she tried using both Firefox and Safari web browsers, and “it worked a lot better with Safari.”
Some people have become discouraged trying to apply on the federal website and are now just waiting, Tayabji said, but in the past week daytime access has seemed to improve.
“Depending on the time of day, we’ve been able to get people trough the federal application,” she said.
Champaign-Urbana Public Health District Administrator Julie Pryde advises people hitting traffic jams on the federal website during the day to try the middle of the night.
“I understand from people doing it themselves, that if you wake up at 2 in the morning, that’s a good time,” she said.
The public health district has 10 navigators offering in-person help at 201 W. Kenyon Road, C, and access to the federal website has been “hit and miss” during the daytime, Pryde said.
Though, she adds, “we have gotten through to the federal website to sign up.”
Want to hear the latest? Champaign County Health Care Consumers has scheduled a community meeting with updated information about using the state-federal health marketplace. It will be at 11 a.m. Nov. 2 at the Champaign Public Library, 200 W. Green St., C.
Meanwhile, Tayabji said some people can spare themselves time and frustration just by knowing which government state or federal they need to deal with for health coverage.
Those who are eligible for Medicaid, the state’s health plan for the needy, don’t need the federal website at all, she said.
“The trick is knowing whether you qualify for that,” Tayabji says.
The Medicaid program has been expanded to include more people, so those who don’t know if they are eligible can talk to navigators in the area. Or start with the state gateway site at http://www.getcoveredillinois.gov[2] and answer a handful of screening questions.
If the system determines you may be Medicaid eligible, it directs you to the Medicaid application site at https://abe.illinois.gov[3] to answer more questions.
Illinois’ Get Covered website is also a gateway to the federal website for the non-Medicaid eligible, on which people are attempting to apply for coverage and subsidies and view health plans in their state marketplaces.
Heather Benz, a navigator at the Champaign County Regional Planning Commission, Urbana, said roadblocks on the federal website have made it tough trying to enroll people coming to that location.
“We’re still trying,” she said. “We get emails telling us, Got to be patient, that they’re working on those types of glitches.”
In addition to the Champaign-Urbana Public Health District, in-person assistance is available through other public health departments in the area and at these locations:
PACE Center for Independent Living, 1317 E. Florida Ave., U.
East Central Illinois Refugee Mutual Assistance Center, 302 S. Birch St., U. (Appointment advised, call 344-8455.)
Campaign for Better Health Care, 44 E. Main St., Suite 414, C. (Appointment only, call 352-5600.)
Champaign County Regional Planning Commission, 1776 E. Washington St., U.
Sessions scheduled to help with enrollment
A series of public sessions has been scheduled to help with enrollment for the state-federal health marketplace and Medicare.
The meetings will be sponsored by the Presence Covenant Medical Center’s language services department and its Center for Healthy Living, the Champaign County Regional Planning Commission and East Central Illinois Refugee Mutual Assistance Center as follows:
Oct. 25, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Regional Planning Commission, 1307 N. Mattis Ave., C.
Nov. 7, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and 5-7 p.m., Presence Covenant, 1400 W. Park St., U
Nov. 13, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and 5-7 p.m., Community Service Center of Northern Champaign County, 520 E. Wabash Ave., Suite 1, Rantoul.
Dec. 2, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Savoy Recreation Center, 402 Graham Drive, Savoy.
People planning to attend don’t need to register in advance, but should bring proof of income, citizenship (such as a Social Security card or passport) and proof of Illinois residency. There will be interpreters available for multiple languages.

Can You Give Me Some Health Tips? I need some health tips. You see I am making a health book. I want to give the world a medical health book. Therefore I need health tips.
Do These Health Tips Actually Work? 1 apple / day – no doctor
1 lemon / day – no fat
1 cup of milk / day – no bone problems
3 ltrs water / day – no diseases…
Also what are some losing weight health tips?
No, these health ‘tips’ are actually myths. It’s all very healthy to do that, but no.
To lose weight, all you can really do is exercise more and eat healthy and try to keep your calories at around 1600 a day. It’s good to drink homemade lemonade that tastes pretty sour and not sweetened very much- it’s good for your metabolism. Tea is good, fruits and vegetables are good. It’s a great time to get active because it’s summer and you’ll sweat more, which is awesome for your body to flush out toxins and such. I like making fruit smoothies and adding spinach or kale (you can’t taste it and it’s so good for your body- not to mention filling). When you snack during the day, only snack on ‘raw’ foods like fruits and vegetables, or maybe a few almonds.
Good luck!
What Are Your Best Tips To Live A Healthy Life? Health tips in any area would be great. Especially what foods to eat, fitness tips, avoiding colds or being sick, and being happier.
Sorry it’s so broad, but I just wanted some really good tips or secrets, or anything. Thanks!
One has to be happy, not worry about everything little thing that goes wrong, think of others who have life a lot worse or the ones who are gone who whould like to swich with you, but most importantly, you must cleanse your body of toxins and take suppliments.
What Are Some Basic Tips To Give To Kids About Staying Healthy? I’m trying to teach my 6 year old nephew how to stay healthy. I need tips from eating right, to being active and maintaining hygiene. Any health tips you expect a 6 yr old kid to understand.
You should tell them to eat lots of smaller meals and to eat slowly so that their bodies are more able to recognize when they are full. Also its important to drink lots of water and fruit juice rather than soda. Try and encourage him to stay away from junk food and eat fruit or something healthy when he wants a snack. Also teach him to be active, that playing sports and running around is good for you as well as fun. Also teach him the basics of hygiene like showering daily and brushing his teeth 3 times a day. Try and make it all fun for him though, as kids respond more to things that they find enjoyable.
Anyone Have Some Good Tips For A College Student Who Wants To Lose About 35 Pounds? Basically Im pretty lethargic due to the studying….I do a fair bit of walking and I dont eat fast food more than a coupla times a month, but I seem to keep gaining weight. Basically I need some health tips or some way of beginning to get rid of the buddha belly.
As a fellow student, I understand your struggle. My butt feels constantly glued to a seat and I don’t have the time or attention for planning healthy meals. It’s tough but I manage to control my weight and even lose weight every now and then with some pretty easy tactics. Since you want to lose it, you’ll have to get serious. I would highly recommend cardio workouts. Depending on your fitness level and personal tastes you could try at home workouts like Tae Bo or you can hit the gym (in which case walking or jogging on the tredmill mixed with weights would be effective). Basically, make yourself workout even when you feel tired from studying or a long day. Next thing you know, you’ll look forward to the stress relief. Remember to watch what you eat and consider counting calories…you may be surprised how much you eat daily! Get sleep. Lack of sleep stresses the bod out and you may compensate with food. And you definitely will have less energy for workouts. GOOD LUCK!
I’m Trying To Loose Weight, What Are Some Health Tips? I’m making a modeling portfolio, and I know I need to be slimmer. What are some health tips, such as eating veggies, and colors to dress in the make you look slimmer? What is skinny for height 5’8″? I am Indian (India) & German and I have blue eyes.
Unfortunately there are no easy ways to permanently lose weight and most people who lose weight regain it all.
A vegetarian or vegan diet for the rest of your life might perhaps be a good option as very few vegetarians or vegans are overweight.
If you want a life changing permanent weight loss you need to follow a maintenance diet for the rest of your life after you reach your target weight with one of the many diets you can choose from.
You can see further details in a web search for “how to lose weight and keep it off”.
