Sex / Health / Fitness: How To Get Fit And Focused With Rogan Richards

Spring has sprung and if youre like me, youve suddenly remembered that swimsuit season is around the corner. Its time to shed those extra kilos from watching True Blood and eating Tim Tams on the couch.

But where do you start? With Melbourne born fitness instructor, physique model and filmmaker Rogan Richards in town performing at Melbourne club Sircuit, I figured why not ask him for some gymspiration.

Ive been a personal trainer for over ten years and am very passionate about the sport and love helping others reach their gains, he tells Same Same. I started my muscle vids to get guys off, he smiles, but since have had so many people approach me for advice and tips that I thought why not use my public profile to help people other than just use up their tissues.

I have followers now, young guys mainly, that have told me some amazing stories of how Ive helped them or given them something positive in their lives and that really means a lot to me. I was them once.

Results dont just happen overnight and getting your body into top form takes time and determination, he says.

I started when I was 15. My old man was a competitive bodybuilder so I always had a gym in the backyard instead of a sand pit. He never pushed the sport onto me it was my fascination for the muscle blokes in magazines and Tarzan on TV that made me walk into the gym and start working on developing what I thought I wanted to emulate.

But for those of us not lucky enough to have been bodybuilding since our teen years, where do we start? The best way to get the quickest results is educate yourself on what youre actually doing in the gym and why, as well as correct food.

And I dont mean diets I dont believe in them either. If you want to look like me or Megan Fox you need to adapt your lifestyle accordingly. And all the info you need is on line, on YouTube and in blogs. Read and watch what real people do NOT what magazines tell you.

I dont use a routine, Rogan adds. Your muscles react to change so I find a routine, like going into the gym and repeating yourself week after week, a disadvantage to making gains. But I can tell you that Im usually in the gym six times a week for about one hour and split my muscle groups up so that I train each muscle once a week and those that need extra love and care calves, maybe delts twice a week or more.

Rogan is in Melbourne now, and is bringing something fun and different to Friday nights at Sircuit Bar tonight with Spring Porn as well as Saturday nights Underwear Dance Party.

I love Sircuit, he tells us. I always have heaps of fun with the lads there and its the only place in Melbourne where Ill be on a bar with a wig on, high heels and hard all on the one night. Its gonna be a fun night.

Im also looking forward to Northside Bazaar[1] this Sunday, its my first time attending and Im representing Eagle Leather[2] who recently just sponsored me.
