Avoid Street Food And Other Health Tips For Black Nazarene Devotees

Planning to take part in the activities marking the Feast of the Black Nazarene in Manila this week? Bring your umbrellas, drink lots of water, wear loose and comfortable clothing, and be wary of street food.

These were among the health tips issued Monday by National Epidemiology Center head Dr. Enrique Tayag, as millions of devotees are expected to take part in the festivities.

“Bring (an) umbrella[1] to cover from rain or to get shade against the sun,” Tayag said on his Twitter account.

He also advised devotees to “drink lots of water[2] to prevent dehydration.”

Devotees and visitors were advised as well to “Wear decent footwear[3] to minimize serious wounds or injuries.”

While food vendors are to be banned[4] at the vigil at the Quirino Grandstand, Tayag nevertheless warned devotees to be wary of street food.

“Be careful of street food[5], you run the risk of food poisoning,” he added.

At the venues of activities that may be crowded, Tayag advised devotees to wear comfortable clothing.

“Do not wear tight clothing[6] for ease of recovery when you faint,” he said. The Black Nazarene

feast honors the life-sized statue of Christ which is believed to have been brought from Mexico to Manila[7] in 1606 by Spanish missionaries. Millions are expected to take part in the activities[8], from the procession of Black Nazarene replicas on Monday, the Pahalik on Tuesday at the Quirino Grandstand, to the main procession in Quiapo on Wednesday.

Allergies, colds

For those with allergies, Tayag advised them to “carry tags that list your allergies[9] to aid health responders on medicines you may need.”

He also said those with colds should “cover your nose and mouth[10] when you cough, or better still stay home.”

Senior citizens

Tayag said senior citizens who may suffer more from unintentional injuries during procession should stay home[11].

No-no’s

Tayag warned devotees against carrying pointed objects[12]. “You may hurt others,” he said.

He also dissuaded them from bringing young children along[13], as “they can get crushed from the huge crowd.”

‘Massage soles’

For those joining the procession or walking long distances, Tayag advised them to stretch their feet and legs, and massage the soles with oil[14] after the procession.

“For swollen, hot or tired feet soak in cool water then elevate your feet[15] for half an hour,” he added.

He also advised those who feel chest pain not to hesitate to seek help.

“When you do not feel well Shout for help[16] Do not dismiss even bearable chest pains,” he said.

He also advised them not to hold their urine[17]. “Find a location to find comfort,” he said.

Medical teams on standby

Tayag assured devotees medical teams will be on standby[18] and on white alert, but advised them to know their location for easy access.

“Expect the unexpected Better still, be prepared for them They happen when you thought they will not,” he added. KG, GMA News[19]

      Hey,

The best advice I can give you is exercise daily and eat well. Eat at least 5 portions of fruit or vegetables a day. Try to cut out as much sugar and snacks as you can manage. Drink plenty of water. Exercise for about 30 minutes a day, remember this does not have to be running a million miles and lifting 10 ton weights. Walking is an excellent form of exercise and is great because you can walk briskly around shops whilst looking at really cute outfits!

      I hope this helps!

One has to be happy, not worry about everything little thing that goes wrong, think of others who have life a lot worse or the ones who are gone who whould like to swich with you, but most importantly, you must cleanse your body of toxins and take suppliments.

Anyone Have Some Good Tips For A College Student Who Wants To Lose About 35 Pounds? As a fellow student, I understand your struggle. My butt feels constantly glued to a seat and I don’t have the time or attention for planning healthy meals. It’s tough but I manage to control my weight and even lose weight every now and then with some pretty easy tactics. Since you want to lose it, you’ll have to get serious. I would highly recommend cardio workouts. Depending on your fitness level and personal tastes you could try at home workouts like Tae Bo or you can hit the gym (in which case walking or jogging on the tredmill mixed with weights would be effective). Basically, make yourself workout even when you feel tired from studying or a long day. Next thing you know, you’ll look forward to the stress relief. Remember to watch what you eat and consider counting calories…you may be surprised how much you eat daily! Get sleep. Lack of sleep stresses the bod out and you may compensate with food. And you definitely will have less energy for workouts. GOOD LUCK!

Unfortunately there are no easy ways to permanently lose weight and most people who lose weight regain it all.

A vegetarian or vegan diet for the rest of your life might perhaps be a good option as very few vegetarians or vegans are overweight.

If you want a life changing permanent weight loss you need to follow a maintenance diet for the rest of your life after you reach your target weight with one of the many diets you can choose from.

You can see further details in a web search for “how to lose weight and keep it off”.

      Hi Kara!

I have dealt with this problem of weight lose (and low self esteem too!) for a couple of years now. But now I reached a point where I know if I will not do something for myself, no one will do it…So, here is a list of some questions/ideas that I think you will find useful and by answering to these question you will have some ideas on what to work on.

      1. Make the time to focus on health.

      2. Take a long hard look at what you are putting into your body.

      3. How much are you eating?

      4. Drink WATER!

      5. How much do you move each day?

Hope you will be ok soon!

      Kindly,

      Irene
