Cortisol: Stress hormone linked to frailty

Lower morning and higher evening cortisol levels contribute to frailty in older individuals, according to new research accepted for publication in the Endocrine Society’s Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism (JCEM).

Frailty confers a high risk for institutionalization and increased risk of mortality and is characterized by unintentional weight loss, feelings of exhaustion and fatigue, physical inactivity, slow gait speed and low grip strength. Neuroendocrine function, including cortisol secretion, is thought to be involved in the etiology of frailty, but until now the underlying biological mechanisms have not been well understood.

“Cortisol typically follows a distinct daily pattern with the highest level in the morning and the lowest basal level at night,” said Karl-Heinz Ladwig, PhD, MD, of Helmholtz Zentrum München in Neuherberg, Germany and an author of the study. “Our findings showed dysregulated cortisol secretion, as featured by a smaller morning to evening cortisol level ratio, was significantly associated with frailty status.”

In this study, researchers conducted a cross-sectional analysis of 745 participants between the ages of 65 and 90 years. Cortisol levels were measured using saliva samples at three points: awakening, 30 minutes after awakening and evening. Participants were classified as frail if three or more of the following criteria were met: exhaustion, physical inactivity, low walking speed, weakness (measured by grip strength) or weight loss (loss of more than 5 kilograms in the past six months).

“Our results suggest a link between disrupted cortisol regulation and loss of muscle mass and strength, as the underlying pathophysiology of frailty,” said Hamimatunnisa Johar, a PhD student at Helmholtz Zentrum München and an author of the study. “In a clinical setting assessment of frailty can be time-consuming, and our findings show measurements of cortisol may offer a feasible alternative.”

why do all the aesthetic bodybuilders seem to act like douchey Abercrombie
models? I’m just trying to compare the difference between what I assume to
be natural and competitive bodybuilding, but I have to sit through awkward
poses and guys blowing kisses at the fucking camera.

just because they have good bodies dont talk shitt man, its unfair. they
have been training for like 5+ and with help of some good genetics they can
achieve a good physique. as for myself i have friends who asks me if i use
steroids.. its fucked up. just because i grow muscle very fast they thinks
its have to be some kind of cheat you know.. put in the hard work and eat
like a monster you will see massive changes to your body. i was 180 shredd
in this picture belive it or not i was doing powerlifting back then, no
hyperthropy training what so ever. but i still have some nice gains?
genetics play a huge role.. the society of BB gives the steroid to much
attention, if you see a great physique you are danm fast to talk shitt
about him “got to be roids” STFU. When people come to my face asking if i
use roids im like hell yeah im doing something right, but i dont like to be
called a cheater i bust my fucking ass off at the gym and it stops me from
doing alot of things. Making food 5 times a day, eating 3600 calories oww
man i hate to eat.. workout 4-5 times a week, i dont go to party often and
my girlfriend cries i dont have time for her. Show some respekt and dont
talk if you dont know, just stfu and lett people do whatever the fuck they
    wanna DO.

Look up body fat percentage graphics. That’s what body fat percentage looks
like. These guys are at <5%. For your body fat percentage to be that low,
you would have to do a shit ton of cardio and eat very little. This would
cause muscular atrophy, and your body would end up using a lot of muscle
for fuel. It's damn near impossible to have this much muscle mass while
being so ripped, unless your body is almost completely devoid of
    water--which isn't the case

Please tell me more about how mibolerone, anadrol and metribolone are safe.
Please tell me more about how such 17AA and LH blockers are safe. Sure
their use is justified by the need to push everything to the limit but dont
    claim they are perfectly safe.
