Selecting Weight Loss Diet Plans That Suit You

When it comes to shifting a few pounds, there are no shortage of weight loss diet plans claiming to have all of the answers. But with so much contradictory advice out there, how do you know which diet plan you should follow?

Consult Your Doctor

The truth is, dieting can be a complex business. Individual lifestyles and genetic susceptibilities can influence how and why you gain weight, and consequently the most effective weight loss plan will vary from person to person too. Therefore, it can be a good idea to involve your family doctor.

Your doctor will know your state of health, and be able to help set weight loss goals which are both safe and realistic. He will also be able to advise if certain medications or ailments will preclude you from trying certain weight loss diet plans. In some instances, your doctor may be able to give you the details for local weight loss support groups or services.

What Are Your Personal Needs?

Your health is not the only factor you should consider when choosing a diet plan. The majority of people who are trying to lose weight will have tried other diet plans in the past, and failed to achieve the results that they wanted. You should spend a little time reflecting on why previous efforts were unsuccessful.

Consider the following:

* Which diets did you try? Think about what you disliked about previous diets, and what caused you to give up on your weight loss goals. Also consider if there were any aspects of the diet that you did like, and whether there were any parts of the diet which seemed to give a particularly effective boost to shedding the pounds.

* Your dieting preferences. Do you prefer losing weight through your own efforts alone, or do you find group support helps you with your motivation? If you find the support of other invaluable, then do you like to interact online, or do you thrive more in face to face interactions?

* Your budget. Some weight loss diet plans incur extra costs. This might be through branded food items or diet supplements, or you may need to attend meetings which include a nominal fee.

Finding A Safe Plan

Once you have determined what type of diet plan would suit you, spend a little time finding a weight loss program which is safe, effective and reputable. Although it can be tempting to go on a fad diet which gives fast results, programs which yield slower weight loss are the ones which give longer lasting changes.

Choose a weight loss plan which still gives you a balanced diet. Eliminating specific food groups can cause nutritional deficiencies over a period of time, and you may suffer health issues due to low levels of essential vitamins.

Finally, try to find a weight loss plan which you enjoy. Those which are hard work or leave you feeling deprived often lead to failure, as you are unlikely to stick to the plan. A successful diet is one where the changes will last a life time.

      Go wheat free. No pasta, pizza, bread and so on. And no food after 7 p.m.
      I know a woman who lost 60 pounds a month on it. She did nothing else!
      and as for your book – go to a bookstore and browse it. Or go to amazon.com, find it and then click “search inside this book” – you will be able to read an extract.

    What Are Some Good Ab Exercises? I’m really skinny and I really don’t have any fat in the abdomen area, but I’m trying to get my abs defined. A lot of the articles for ab exercises I’m seeing have things like “fat loss tips for great abs”. Since I don’t need to lose fat, I’m wondering if I need to do different kinds of exercises than what those articles are suggesting.
    I’m also doing cardio exercises. Should I do ab exercises before or after I do cardio? Or should I do them at completely separate times?

      They say so, because you do have fat on top of your abs, you just do not need to lose it anywhere else. Or little flab.
      jogging is an excellent exercise because it let you tone throughout your whole body. If you want to tone in
      specific areas, you should target them with exercises. If they are
      your problem areas, they will be very difficult to tone. You will have
      to work double on them. The best approach is this:
      1. Lower/control your daily calorie intake (control for normal
      weight, lower for overweight).
      2. Run/jog to lower your overall body fat percentage.
      3. Target your problem areas with exercises.
      an excellent exercise, you can do it in front of your TV: sit on a
      stool, and put your toes under something (piece of heavy furniture,
      for example). In your hands hold a little dumbbell. Please, make sure
      that it is not very heavy, start with one kilo, for example, or you
      will damage your back and spine! Slowly move the upper part of your
      body back, until it’s parallel with the ground. Stop for a second and
      move it back to the sitting position. Repeat ten times. Every week add
      to the number of repetitions. You will see the results in a week,
      guaranteed! You will see or feel under the fat – if you have any – six
      pack and muscles. Dumbbells do wonders. Much better than these
      crunches – I came up to three hundreds and there was no results AT
      ALL. With the dumbbells you will see it in a week.

    Am I Doing Well On The First Day Of My Diet? Anything I Shouldn’t Eat And Any Tips? I’m 14 and I’m going on my very first diet so that I can lose belly fat for the summer. I’m doing exercise as well as watching what I eat and counting calories. I only plan to lose around 7 pounds, so I have 3 months. I was wondering if there’s anything I ate so far that I shouldn’t of ate and what I should avoid eating in the future? Also does anyone have any belly fat loss tips?

    SunBest Fruit Biscuits Apples & Raisins – 168 cal.
    1 whole wheat flour tortilla with half a cup of refried beans – 240 cal.
    1 cup of cheerios and half a cup of organic whole milk – 175 cal.
    1 cup of split pea soup – 160 cal.

    So that all comes to around 745 calories. I haven’t had dinner or a midnight snack yet, so I know that by the time the day is over I’ll have eaten at least 1100 calories.

    What Should I Be Careful About When Buying Fat Loss Supplements? I am going to start going to the gym after a year of absence, and I want to lose the weight I gained fast. I’ll buy supplements like proteins, vitamins etc. I’ll also buy fat loss supplements, but as I’ve never bought these before, I don’t know which ones to get.

      Of course, there are a huge number of weight loss blogs to choose from. There are a number of medically supervised and very expensive calorie restricted programs costing thousands of dollars, however, that doesn’t make these programs effective. According to Gina Kolata, who did extensive research on the topic, the most popular diets are also ineffective for the vast majority of people over an extended period of time. If you embark on a 12-week diet, you will lose weight for the first 12-weeks and then re-gain the weight after that.

      To be effective, you must embark on a permanent lifestyle change that includes a radically different way of eating. I lost 90 pounds and kept it off without having to pay anyone for anything.I read “Eat More, Weigh Less” by Dr. Dean Ornish. Former President Bill Clinton reversed his heart disease and lost 25 pounds by eating the same low-fat whole plant based diet. His was supervised by Dr. Caldwell Esselstyn, Jr. at the Cleveland Clinic.

      My advice is to go to the web sites of the following experts to seek help:

      Professor Emeritus T. Colin Campbell of Cornell (he wrote “The China Study”)
      Dr. Neal Barnard (“Food for Life”)
      Dr. Joel Fuhrman (“Fasting and Eating for Health”)

      The “Whole Plant Based Diet” is the program that is ideal for optimal health and maintaining an ideal weight. It’s a lifestyle change, not a pill or a quick fix. If you are not in it for the long-term, your weight loss will not last.

      You can very easily lose 1/2 pound per week if you choose foods carefully and avoid commercially processed food like products. If you choose a medically supervised fast, you can expect to lose about 2 pounds per week of fat (the other weight is water weight and will come back on your body after the fast ends).

      Instead of dairy, choose leafy greens containing iron, calcium, and protein. Eat whole grains (brown rice, quinoa) and ligumes (peas, beans, lentils) for additional proteins. Take a B12 and D supplement if you go vegetarian.

      Instead of meat, pork, fish, poultry, eggs, or any other form of animal based foods, take the foods listed in the paragraph above and eat ground flax seed for Omega-3 Essential fatty acids. Otherwise, you do not need to eat any form of oil or fat. Even virgin olive oil contains saturated fats which are unhealthy for your cardiovascular system. A gram of fat/oil contains 9 calories and can increase your appetite.

      Eat lots of raw and cooked vegetables, and some whole fruits every day. Avoid commercially processed drinks that might contain refined sugar or artificial flavors (aspartame and MSG cause weight gain due to their effect on appetite).

      If you want to maintain muscle mass, learn free weight training. A pound of muscle is the energy equivalent to seven pounds of fat. Read about “vegan” body builders and athletes who focus on endurance sports. (Rip Esselstyn wrote an excellent cook book called the “Engine 2 Diet.” He and his father were world class athletes.)

      You can ignore most health information on commercial media. I have found that it is almost always misleading. Please read the publications of some of the independent experts listed above. Former President Bill Clinton reversed his heart disease and lost 25 pounds by following the advice of Dr. Caldwell Esselstyn, Jr. of the Cleveland Clinic.

      You can do this on your own, but if you want an optimal weight loss, I suggest that you follow a medically supervised water fast. Dr. Joel Fuhrman is the world’s leading authority on this. If you can get into one of his programs, that is ideal. Remember, for the diet to be effective you must change your eating habits for life.

    How Should I Train For Cross Country Running And Loose Weight?? I am overweight and want to start cross country in fall (end of august/ begining of sept. so 4-5 months) I can’t run for more than 300-600 feet at a time and need to build up to the 3 mile (5K). I need training tips and weight-loss/ fat loss tips. Any help is appriciated!!!!

      The best thing would be to start jogging now. Start at a managable pace and go for as long as you can. You just have to build up to it. When I started running I could only do a mile, after a while of doing that and gradually adding more distance, I got up to 4 miles. As far as weightloss – cardio is the best way, so stick to the running. Try a stationary bike if you can’t get outside much, but cycling on a stationary and running are completely different, so you definitely want to train with running.

      You may find this helpfull. No matter how much I try to control my weight it does not work, however there was one time in my life that without rying and without realising I suddenly lost 4 stone. It was a time when I was suffering back pain and could hardly walk. Being alone in the house I tried to make things easy as far as food was concerned. I had a microwave on the floor and all I ate for a few months was tinned soup, various types, nothing else, no bread. It was so easy, just open the tin, pour it into a dish and then in the microwave. Amazingly I lost 4 stone in about 4 months. I have never been able to achieve that by dieting.
