Ultimate Travel Tech: Staying Fit

Youre on the road, youre drinking with clients and friends, youre eating out more than usual. Avoid a total health blowout with our favourite fitness gadgets and on-road fitness tips.

The Gear

FitBit Zip[1]

The FitBit Zip is the easiest way to get into tracking your activity while you travel. Its great for telling you how many steps you have been doing and how that translates into calories burned. Its lightweight, easy to use and simple enough to just clip on your backpack and forget.

FitBit One[2]

The FitBit One is like its younger brother, the Zip, but it gives you fitness stats in more granular detail. It has a tracker that figures out how many stairs and floors youve climbed to go along with your steps, and fits into your diet and exercise plan by syncing via Bluetooth 4.0 with your iOS and supported Android device. It also has a sleep tracker and a silent alarm so its useful while you sleep, too.

Mio Alpha Heart Rate Monitor[3]

The Mio Alpha is a revolution in heart rate monitoring. The most annoying thing about travel is the most annoying thing about fitness: fiddling with unnecessary crap. Normally, a heart rate monitor requires you to strap the thing to your chest and afterwards if youre travelling you have to stick that sweaty band back in your suitcase. Gross. The Mio Alpha just slides around your wrist like a watch and gives you all the data you need in a quick and easy way. There are two green LEDs that shine into your skin on the back, and an electro-optical cell that senses the tiny changes in the colour of your skin, indicating the flow of your blood and thus your heart rate. Its basically the same tech as medical oximeters that are used in hospitals, but miniaturised and wearable.

Endomondo[4]

Endomondo is a fantastic app for keeping you fit in the real world. It has a bunch of different courses, workouts and challenges that are location-specific, so that wherever you are, you can find fresh new ways to work out. Everything from running through to cycling, and even windsurfing is there, plus it can import data from your FitBit!

Runkeeper[5]

Runkeeper is a great app for marking and tracking your running progress. Dont let yourself get cooped up in the hotel gym while you travel. Get out there and run around the city you came here to see, and track your progress with Runkeeper while you do it. Afterwards, you can post to Facebook that you did 20 laps around the Eiffel Tower.

The Tips

Make Fitness Appointments

Whether youre travelling or at home, the best way to ensure you stay fit is to make it part of your schedule. Set an appointment in your calendar for exercise, rather than just assuming youll fit it in somewhere. Aiming for first thing is often a good idea: youll be less inclined to hit the gym (or use all that gear youve packed) after a long day at a conference.

Walk Everywhere

Walking is the one form of exercise that doesnt require any specialised equipment and can be done practically anywhere (weather and motorways willing). Hotels can often supply a local jogging map, and thats just as useful for walking as it is for jogging. At a convention, walk the breadth of the show floor during your lunch break.

Pack The Right Shoes

Weve argued in the past that packing multiple pairs of shoes is a bad idea[6], but one of the few exceptions to that rule is if you plan to exercise. Throw in a pair of trainers so you cant use the lack of footwear as an excuse. (Though with that said, you can do barefoot sit-ups in your hotel room and no-one will know.)

Use A Good Exercise Playlist

Music is a powerful motivator when you exercise[7]. Make sure you have your favourite exercise music set up on a playlist[8] on your favourite device before you hit the road.

Take The Stairs

A simple but very effective way to ensure you exercise: take the stairs rather than the lift whenever you have to get to your room. (This wont work in every hotel some stairwells arent accessible from the ground floor but its worth checking.) Picture:

First, you have to choose a certain kind of exercise that they really can handle well. Some exercise that might be great choice for asthma sufferers are walking, swimming, riding a bike, as well as hiking. These kinds of exercise needs less physical move than tennis, hockey, gymnastics, long distance running, and many other else. You could also consult their doctors to choose the most appropriate type of exercise for you.

Second, you can take advantage of your inhaler. You can use your inhaler about 15 minutes before you start to exercise. Besides, makes sure that your inhaler is always close enough to you. You will never know when the attack might hit you. Therefore, providing inhaler as first aid near you is very important.

Third, breathing through your nose during the exercise is also important. Mouth breathing tends to trigger asthma attack since it causes you to inhale cold air right into the bronchial tube. In contrary, the air that you heal will be filtered well when you are breathing through your nose. Besides, nose breathing also allows the air to be warmer before reaching the lungs.

The fourth thing you need to do is looking for a certain area that free from pollutions and allergens. However you should also avoid area with too many trees or grass. Then, you should also be aware of the symptoms of asthma that occur during the exercise. If you feel very tired and your chest begins to be tightening, you should be notice that those are the initial symptoms of asthma. Usually, those symptoms will be followed by wheezing. Stop doing any physical activity when these symptoms occur.

By following those tips, asthma sufferers could still have exercise with less risk of asthma attack. Do not let asthma attack prevent you to have regular exercise activity.

      Avoid elevators and escalators,,
climb stairs,, walk long distances every single day.
hour of cardio at your target heart rate every day.
stretch properly afterwards or you wont want to come back tomorrow which blows the whole plan.

      good luck
